    • THE COACH PROGRAM @ ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY! BE A COACH!

    •
SECTION: Community OutreachAlumni Relations, Career Enhancement, Giving back to the Community, Guidance, Mentor

    HEY ALL!

I am proud to announce that I am a new member of the COACH Program family for St. John’s University Alumni Queens Campus! I will be helping those that need career advice and find a pathway to success! Here is some information that may be helpful to you as far as getting more involved with the St. John’s academic community! So check me out on monstertrak.com!

Count on Alumni for Career Help Program

The COACH program was established to provide
St. John’s students with an opportunity to gain a better understanding of career choices. The program offers seminars, lectures, educational tours and the opportunity to network with alumni (who offer practical advice) in various fields.

The COACH program is housed on MonsterTRAK (an Internet site hosting the Career Center’s full-time job postings and On Campus Recruiting Program.) This site is comprised of alumni from SJU and other colleges, representing diverse career fields, who have offered to share their career experiences with students and other alumni. To serve as a COACH, we ask that you register on this site.

    Benefits of Becomming a COACH

Often, the best, most inspiring advice comes from listening to the personal experiences of others. Communicating with a professional can provide realistic information about career options, job responsibilities, and employment conditions. This program is:

A fulfilling way to assist SJU students and fellow alumni who need career information and advice
Your chance to become a role model for others regarding their career
A great way to “give back” to the University

What to Expect as a COACH

St. John’s students and alumni, who have registered, search a site for a list of COACHes and may contact you according to the method you indicate when you register. One meeting with your protégé may be sufficient to answer questions or, a relationship may develop allowing you to address concerns by listening and offering advice.

As a COACH, you will be able to set your own limit as far as involvement. Also, a member of the Career Center may contact you to ask if you would like to share your expertise before a group of students.

    Coaches Needed!
Due to the many requests received for career networking programs involving students and alumni, we are seeking “coaches” in various fields. Organizations or individuals may host 20 – 25 students for on-site visits. Programs are followed by a networking event.

If you are interested in becoming a COACH, contact Jessica Bickley at (718) 990-1319 or e-mail coach@stjohns.edu. If you are interested in hosting a group of students at your organization, contact Joanne Filippone ’89SVC at (718) 990-1992 or e-mail filippoj@stjohns.edu

Hope to hear from you soon (spread the word to any freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors that may need career guidance!)

    GO RED STORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Sincerely,

    The Beautiful Stranger

YOU CAN MOST CERTAINLY TUNE IN TO THE STATION BY LOGGING ONTO WBAI.ORG! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT IN ADVANCE!

    HISTORY:

Celebrate International Working Women’s Day with 29 Hours of Women-Only Programming!

Tune in to WBAI Friday, March 7 at 7:00 PM and Sat., March 8 for 29 hours of programming dedicated to, produced for and hosted by women. Celebrating International Working Women’s Day (IWWD), topics range from economic issues affecting women, to women’s work for social justice and equality, to frank discussions about gender, sexuality and women’s reproductive rights. For a schedule of live performances, click here.

International Women’s Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women’s groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday.

When women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.

International Women’s Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history; it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war; during the French Revolution, Parisian women calling for “liberty, equality, fraternity” marched on Versailles to demand women’s suffrage.

The idea of an International Women’s Day first arose at the turn of the century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and socialist ideologies.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT EVERYONE! LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK WHEN AND IF YOU TUNE IN! ALL THE BEST

P.S. Also check out EXPOSERADIO.COM for the unedited version!
