    •
SECTION: **Alerts**,Believe It Or Not!!!,Did you know that....?,Health & Wellness,What is your purpose in life?AIDS, Blacks, Epidemic

THIS IS WHY I ASK…(PLEASE READ ALL AND CAREFULLY)

     Released TODAY, July 30th @ 2:58pm

About 3.3% of the city’s black population is infected with the virus, compared with 3.1% of blacks living in Nigeria, according to a recent report.

The rate of HIV infections among African Americans in New York City is higher than that of several third-world countries, including Nigeria, according to a report issued this week by the nonprofit Black AIDS Institute. Can you BELIEVE THAT?

About 3.3% of the city’s black population is infected with the virus, compared with 3.1% of blacks living in Nigeria. In Manhattan alone, one in six African American men between the ages of 40 and 54 are infected.

“People think the AIDS epidemic is over, but it’s not,” said Phill Wilson, chief executive of the nonprofit institute. “We’ve known that African Americans have been disproportionately impacted by AIDS for a while, but what’s distressing is that this trend is continuing.”

The report comes at a time when the state Department of Health is preparing to make the controversial move of shifting HIV/AIDS patients who receive Medicaid into managed care plans. Some nonprofit officials have decried the move because many of the best doctors specializing in AIDS care do not participate in managed care plans.

Nationally, about 500,000 blacks are living with HIV or AIDS, and between 20,000 and 30,000 new cases are diagnosed annually, according to the Institute’s report, “Left Behind: Black America, a Neglected Priority in the Global AIDS Epidemic.”

The report called for black communities to focus on fighting AIDS, by drawing attention to it through politics, in civic organizations and in church.

    • AND THE VERDICT IS IN: BIG BOY oR BIG FLOP?

    •
SECTION: Radio Industry News,What do you think?Big Boy, Cipha Sounds, Ed Lover, Hot 97 Morning Show, Luscious Liz Hernandez, Pete Rosenberg, Power 105.1

OK…so I gave it two weeks…two weeks that is to try to settle in with the fact that Hot 97 has a new Morning Show (Big Boy’s Neighborhood)…I have been listening and I REALLY REALLY REALLY have to get used to it.  Is it just me or are there times the program sounds fake—I know its syndicated but can it at least sound live or like they are in NY in the midst cars honking, people cursing, and hustlers selling beanpies!!! (LOL) …

I guess because the show is just so West Coast to me and well New York is what it is…NEW YORK!!!!  Don’t get me wrong, Big Boy is a superb talent!!!, but New York is an even more superb market and needs that consistent raw hitting entertainment…

What NY needs is a mix of Jonesy, Star/Buc, & Steve Harvey …That would be the perfect morning show- Laughter–Sarcasm–& Cocky Righteousness!  I will tell you what I am feelin’ though: The Cipha/Rosenberg Experience from 5a-7a!  They are a cool pair. Cipha is too silly and Rosenberg is too much…perfect combo

So as Hot 97 welcomes a new line-up in the mornings 7am-10am with nationally syndicated Big Boy in the Morning including the award winning entertainment of national funny man Big Boy, and MTV Entertainment Reporter Luscious Liz Hernandez, what do you think? Will this morning show last in the BIG APPLE?  How many of you have made the switch?  Cuz its not like Power 105′s morning show is that much better with Ed’s loud ass!  Love to love ya Lover but…yall need to spice it up too!!!!!! I am giving Big  Boy’s Neighborhood till the end of the summer to start bringing New York to its toes or else!!!!  I am sticking with WBLS’ morning show because you can’t ever get too tired of Steve Harvey!!!!!! (That’s your only real competition…so STEP IT UP!)

    • Remembering Another Beautiful Stranger – Dr. Barbara Ann Teer

    •
SECTION: RIP/TributeDr. Barbara Ann Teer, Harlem, National Black Theatre, RIP

You all may sometimes hear me refer to myself as “The Beautiful Stranger”- there is a reason for this.  It is the meaning of my given first name ‘Barbara’. Brief History:  The origin of the name Barbara comes from Greek and Latin meaning “foreign, stranger, & mysterious beautiful woman”

It is with much dismay that I write this post about a Beautiful Stranger named Dr. Barbara Ann Teer who died on July 21st at the age of 71, having lived a life dedicated to the arts and to the Harlem community at large.

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer fought tirelessly to maintain the Harlem institution known as the National Black Theatre. Dr. Teer was often around Harlem at various arts related events - forever regal, swathed in her trademark colorful afrocentric designs.

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer came to Harlem in 1968 leaving behind a lucrative show business career. Her commitment was to maintain and perpetuate the richness and beauty inherent in the form, feeling and cultural traditions of African-American lifestyle. In 1983, Dr. Teer expanded the purpose and vision of the National Black Theatre by purchasing a city block front of property on the major business corridor of 125th Street in Central Harlem. In May of 1994, she received an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Law from the University of Rochester, New York. In May of 1995, she received her second Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters from the University of Southern Illinois. Dr. Teer graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Dance Education from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois.More than 200 articles, books and videos document the contributions and accomplishments of Dr. Teer’s work in the public sector. She is included in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who Worldwide recognizing her as a global business leader. In addition, she has received more than 40 awards and citations. Dr. Teer is the mother of two children.Dr. Teer was strong, outspoken and dignified. Thank you for your dedication to your art and the community. Your legacy lives on.

REST IN PEACE DR. BARBARA ANN TEER

    • RELATIONSHIP 101: Angry Black Man or Does the Truth Hurt?

    •
SECTION: Learning About Myself,Life Is A .....,Values/Beliefs,What do you think?,What is your purpose in life?Blalck men and women, jumpoffs, relationships, Sex

This morning my very good and close friend sent me this email consisting of a statement from a gentleman on the Black Voices website, please read what he had to say about Black Women, although the language is harsh, its unfortunately the truth and I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Bottom line–if I sleep with a woman I don’t know or care about…SEX is NOT going to make me care. (I stopped doing that years ago) That kind of sex is like scratching an itch. Once a man scratches, he’s through. He ain’t sitting around thinking about that spot that itched or how good it felt scratching it.

He’s moving on with his life until that spot itches again and it don’t matter which hand he scratches it with, just as long as he gets rid of the itch.Too many women PRETEND they can handle a sexual fling, but wind up getting caught up and wanting us to romance and wine and dine them and pretend we’re having a relationship’ when it’s NOTHING but a booty call.

Come on, Ladies, y’all know I’m telling the truth.
Unfortunately, ladies, you are part of our problem. You sleep with us BEFORE you know us or what we’re about. Having sex with a man does not automatically make that a ‘relationship’.

Many women will deny they think like this but I’m speaking from personal experience. Also, ladies know when their men are fooling around and still turn a blind eye by getting mad at the other woman.

Now, what kind of sense does that make? Why should that woman make YOU (a total stranger) a priority in her life? IF HE DID NOT MARRY YOU HE IS STILL SINGLE. The ‘other woman’ is not breaking up a ‘happy home’.Many women marry men who were cheating BEFORE they walked down the aisle and then are SHOCKED that a fancy wedding dress or a n expensive walk down the aisle didn’t change who he was. Why should he change? YOU let him know it was acceptable by sticking around that long.Ladies, start living with your eyes OPEN. Most shady men give themselves away one way or another, usually before the first 30 days. Women have to stop ‘rewarding’ unfaithful men by pretending it ain’t happening. All of us Black Men (BM) do not cheat. I do not cheat on my lady so don’t buy the hype. I know other BM who do not but many men WILL cheat if there are NO real penalties for it.

Stop jumping into bed with brothers YOU DON’T KNOW. That means fewer opportunities for men to cheat. Women have to STOP being so afraid to ask the important questions that would reveal his TRUE lifestyle. Worry LESS about what kind of job he has and what kind of car he drives and encourage him to talk about his past, particularly his past with women. OPEN those ears and listen. Does he put down his ex-women and blame them for everything? And don’t be so vain. You are NOT a better woman than his last.

If he dogged her out, you will probably be NEXT.
Observe him when you are with him. Do you have his home number? Work number? Have you seen where he lives? Where he works? Is he secretive? Did you ask if he’s married or engaged? How does he treat other people? Listen to what he says, NOT what you want to hear.

Stop INTERPRETING the meaning of what he says to fit your purposes. If he says, ‘I’m not looking’ for nothing right now’ — DON’T tell yourself, ‘Aw, he just scared of getting hurt. I can change his mind..’ NO YOU CAN’T!   He said exactly what the hell he meant. BM don’t have to lie when so many BW are already DEAF.If you can’t answer BASIC questions about a man DON’T OPEN YOUR LEGS. I could kind of understand back in the days when sex wouldn’t KILL people but now? there’s no excuse and if a BW takes that huge risk of sleeping with a STRANGER then she better protect herself — sexually AND emotionally.Show our a$$ to the door if we pressure you for sex too soon. Don’t be afraid to be alone. After you give our a$$ some you will probably be alone anyway but now you feel like a fool. In other words, take your time and check us out. if we REALLY like you, we’ll stick around. BUT if you decided to sleep with a man you hardly know, PROTECT yourself and keep your expectations to ZERO.

We do not owe you a relationship or another date just because you had sex with us. That’s not how it works, baby.I have TOO many female friends who give me horror stories that could have been avoided if they’d done their homework first OR moved SLOWER before giving up the panties. I try as a BM to give them the best advice I can but that won’t mean a damn thing if BW continue to live in a dream world.

You are TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE for your own sexual behavior the same as I am. Blaming the man won’t change a damn thing. BW have to look in the mirror and take SOME of the blame for what’s wrong with BM/BW relationships.Let me end by saying….SEX DOES NOT = A RELATIONSHIP (are  you listening…can u hear him? -skh)

GIVING A MAN A READY-MADE FAMILY WILL NOT MAKE HIM COMMIT IF HE DOESN’T WANT TO.   A MAN WILL NOT RESPECT A WOMAN WHO DOES NOT RESPECT HERSELF OR HER BODY

IF YOU TRADE SEX FOR MATERIAL THINGS YOU ARE PROSTITUTING YOURSELF.

IF HE DOESN’T TAKE CARE OF HIS OTHER CHILDREN WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A BABY WITH HIM? (this is not rocket science!)

IF YOU REWARD A DOG WHY SHOULD MEN STOP BEING DOGS?

BRING MORE TO THE TABLE THAN YOUR BODY. NO YOUR [STUFF] IS NOT MADE OF GOLD. IT IS ONLY AS GOOD AS I THINK IT IS. BELIEVE THAT! (say it again sir, say it again. -skh)

BW are going to have to raise their standards if they expect BM to do it. The question is, are my beautiful BW up to the challenge? Are you willing to be strong and stop taking the easy way out? Ladies, ladies, ladies, hit me back with some truth, not some bullsh#t.

I don’t want to hear: ‘What you said don’t refer to me ’cause I got my sh#t together and I’m a proud black woman who intimidates men and I never madeno mistakes, it’s those other women who do things like that.’ No, no, no! I don’t want to hear you putting yourself on a pedestal because I KNOW you’ve made mistakes. I want you to hit me back with some TRUTH.

What are BW going to do about these shady, shaky relationships that wind up  in divorce court 60-70%% of the time, that’s if we bother getting married at all? What are BW going to do DIFFERENT to make this sh#t better?

    • XM & Sirius Satellite Radio Merger APPROVED!

    •
SECTION: Believe It Or Not!!!,Radio Industry NewsFCC, Sirius Satellite, XM

    FCC Approves Satellite Merger

The FCC waited until just before 9 p.m. ET Friday evening (July 25) to announce the long-awaited merger between Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio was approved by a 3-2 conditional vote by the Commissioners, clearing the way for one big satellite company to beam programming to the continental United States. FCC chairman Kevin Martin, who originally said he backed the plan on June 16 but issued an eigh-point list on conditions for the companies to meet, convinced fellow Republicans Robert McDowell and then, finally on Friday evening, Deborah Taylor Tate to accept the plan.

“The merger is in the public interest and will provide consumers with greater flexibility and choices,” said Martin in a statement. “Consumers will enjoy a variety of programming at reduced prices and more diversified programming choices. It will also spur innovation and advance the development and use of interoperable radios, bringing more flexible programming options to all subscribers.”

Tate said in a statement, “I am pleased that before acting on this merger, the Commission first finalized our enforcement proceeding against two companies that have flagrantly violated FCC rules and regulations.”
