A man from President Obama’s hometown of Chicago has been arrested for allegedly sending Obama and his staff envelopes containing HIV-infected blood, in the hopes of killing or harming them. It’s only the second time ever that HIV-infected blood has been sent with malicious intent through the U.S. mail system, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said. In the weeks leading up to Obama’s inauguration, Saad Hussein, an Ethiopian refugee in his late 20’s, sent an envelope addressed to “Barack Obama” to offices of the Illinois government in Springfield, Ill., according to court documents. The envelope contained a series of unusual items, including a letter with reddish stains and an admission ticket for Obama’s election-night celebration in Chicago’s Grant Park. Court documents said Hussein, who takes drugs to treat a mental illness, later told FBI agents he is “very sick with HIV” and cut his fingers with a razor so he could bleed on the letter.

Hold the New York Post accountable

The New York Post recently published the political cartoon shown here, depicting two white police officers standing over the carcass of a bullet-riddled chimpanzee, with the animal representing the author of the stimulus package.

The decision to run this cartoon was irresponsible at best, and hurtful and malicious at worst. It seems unthinkable that an editor of a newspaper would not understand the history of Black folks being depicted as monkeys and apes or the recent spate of death threats against President Obama. Worse, when confronted, Post editor Col Allan dismissed people’s concerns as baseless.

Join us in demanding that The Post issue an apology for the decision and their callousness, and fire the editor who allowed this cartoon to go to print.

Dear Mr. Carlucci,

I was shocked and saddened by the New York Post’s recent publication of Sean Delonas’ cartoon depicting a bullet-riddled chimpanzee, killed by police and thus unable “to write the next stimulus bill.” The image evoked a long history of racially-charged comparisons of Black people to monkeys and pandered — intentionally or not — to a fringe element that fantasizes about violence against President Obama.

I am writing to ask that you publish an apology. I also ask that whichever editor approved Delonas’ cartoon for publication be fired, whether it was Editorial Page Editor Bob McManus, Editor Col Allan, or another senior manager in the newsroom. I ask that you determine who was responsible and hold that person accountable.

I was particularly concerned by the Post’s sole response to readers who found the image to have racist undertones. The callous statement Col Allan issued Wednesday denies a historical reality, and for him to claim ignorance of this history raises questions about his ability to effectively lead a daily newspaper geared toward a mainstream and multiracial audience.

Please publish an apology that acknowledges that it was a mistake for the Post to publish this cartoon and fire the person responsible.

James Joseph Cialella, 29, was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations, a police report said.  He was apparently angry that a family was talking during a movie threw popcorn at the son and then shot the father in the arm

Cialella told the family sitting in front of him in the theater on Christmas Day to be quiet, police said.

An argument ensued while others at the Riverview Movie Theatre watched “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Cialella then approached the family from the left side of the aisle and shot the father, who was not identified, as he was standing between Cialella and his family, according to the police report.

The victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm, police said.

Cialella was carrying a Kel-Tec .380-caliber handgun clipped inside his sweatpants, police said. He was arrested and taken into custody.

It should have never come to this!!!! What ever happened to changing your SEAT? or just saying “hey! could you please hush up, I’m trying to enjoy this movie?” **SMH**

Tennessee-based radio station, WGNS Talk Radio, is reporting that doctors in Berlin, Germany may have found a cure for AIDS.

In what could be the most significant breakthrough in the treatment of AIDS, doctors in Berlin, Germany said that they successfully cured a 42-year-old American man of the deadly disease with a targeted bone marrow transplant. According to Dr. Gero Huetter, this procedure is normally used to treat leukemia patients.

Huetter said the unidentified American had contracted AIDS over a decade ago and underwent a transplant of a genetically selected bone marrow, at a press conference yesterday, according to WGNSRadio.com.

Twenty months after the surgery, the virus appears to have left his body. There have been nothing but clean tests on his bone marrow, blood and organ tissues.

Palin’s rise captivates us but nation needs a steady hand

Alaska enters its 50th-anniversary year in the glow of an improbable and highly memorable event: the nomination of Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential candidate. For the first time ever, an Alaskan is making a serious bid for national office, and in doing so she brings broad attention and recognition not only to herself, but also to the state she leads.

Alaska’s founders were optimistic people, but even the most farsighted might have been stretched to imagine this scenario. No matter the outcome in November, this election will mark a signal moment in the history of the 49th state. Many Alaskans are proud to see their governor, and their state, so prominent on the national stage.

Gov. Palin’s nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency — but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.

Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Sen. McCain.

On the most important issue of the day, Sen. Obama is a clear choice.

Sen. McCain describes himself as a maverick, by which he seems to mean that he spent 25 years trying unsuccessfully to persuade his own party to follow his bipartisan, centrist lead. Sadly, maverick John McCain didn’t show up for the campaign. Instead we have candidate McCain, who embraces the extreme Republican orthodoxy he once resisted and cynically asks Americans to buy for another four years.

It is Sen. Obama who truly promises fundamental change in Washington. You need look no further than the guilt-by-association lies and sound-bite distortions of the degenerating McCain campaign to see how readily he embraces the divisive, fear-mongering tactics of Karl Rove. And while Sen. McCain points to the fragile success of the troop surge in stabilizing conditions in Iraq, it is also plain that he was fundamentally wrong about the more crucial early decisions. Contrary to his assurances, we were not greeted as liberators; it was not a short, easy war; and Americans — not Iraqi oil — have had to pay for it. It was Sen. Obama who more clearly saw the danger ahead.

The unqualified endorsement of Sen. Obama by a seasoned, respected soldier and diplomat like Gen. Colin Powell, a Republican icon, should reassure all Americans that the Democratic candidate will pass muster as commander in chief.

 Ashley Todd, the 20-year-old white McCain volunteer who claimed she was attacked in a Pittsburgh parking lot by a large black man yesterday, then further claimed he carved “B” into her cheek because apparently the sight of her McCain paraphernalia set him into an uncontrollable pro–Barack Obama rage, has confessed that she fabricated the entire story, a Pittsburgh news station reports.  the “B” on her cheek was backward, implying she did it herself in a mirror, earlier today, police said that her statements were inconsistent and asked her to take a polygraph test, and it was evident from her blog and Myspace page that she was UNSTABLE (that means the bitch is looney…PERIOD!)

AND SURPRISE!!!! SURPRISE!!! (I know Nas would be happy with this portion of the story) Fox News, of all places, has declared this incident and the publicity surrounding it the final nail in the coffin of the McCain campaign.
