Barbara C. De Laleu, The Beautiful Stranger
Barbara C. De Laleu is a local radio personality for Cox Media Group, Inc, a freelance voice over artist,and graduate student at New School University‟s M.A. in Media Studies Program in New York City. Herleadership stems deep across the board from the radio industry, academic realm, and not-for-profitcircuits. Barbara formerly worked in Affiliate Relations for the Dr. Laura Program where she becameactively involved as a member of the now Alliance for Women in Media, the New York City Chapter,(formerly known as American Women in Radio and Television) where she formerly served as VicePresident, Programming Committee Chair, and Membership Committee Chair. She was literally a „risingstar‟ of the popular organization where she contributed her leadership skills and efforts to help enhancethe voice for women in the electronic media and allied fields. Ms. De Laleu has in a short period of timedeveloped a respectable reputation as a media mover and shaker. She possesses a successful track recordof establishing relationships with professionals in her field and has become the who‟s who of media!Some industry leaders express confidence in Ms. De Laleu‟s future by proclaiming “She‟s got next!”As a graduate student with the New School University, Ms. De Laleu completes her program this yearwith a thesis focused on the state of minority media ownership specifically black women in radioownership. Before this important milestone, Ms. De Laleu proudly represented her high school, Floral Park Memorial, as the 2001 National Award Winner for Minority Leadership by the United States Achievement Academy. Her leadership through all of her academic experiences stands as strong as herfuture in media.Barbara holds numerous awards including the 2008 Honoree of the American Women in Radio andTelevision Annual “25 Women Who RULE in Sales & Marketing,” as well as the 2005 recipient ofWho’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities, and 2008-2009 recipient of American Womenin Radio and Television‟s BELL (Bringing Excellence at a Local Level) AWARD given to her at theWomen‟s Media Forum in Washington, D.C. Her leadership influenced the fruition of a diversitycommittee for the American Women in Radio and Television New York City Chapter, and has motivatedher to pursue further research on diversity in media ownership.Recently, Ms. De Laleu‟s latest venture includes her new position as a freelance publicist where shefocuses on representing clients in the performing arts and entertainment fields. Her first two clients include Miss Black USA 2010 Osas Ighodaro and the Hip Hop Dance Conservatory Repertory Company.In addition, Ms. De Laleu co-founded a New York City based networking group called B.A.N.G. (BigApple Networking Group) with celebrity photojournalist Kimberly Butler. B.A.N.G. is a not-for-profitorganization geared towards using speed networking techniques that set up effective opportunities forwomen in all industries to expand their networking skills, build on business deals, or a provide an avenuechange in career paths—connecting with each other in a New York minute.
